TLT Advisory Member Garry Plunkett recognized for land conservation work

On Saturday, March 8th Garry Plunkett of Tiverton, R.I. received the Peter Merritt Award for Land Conservation from the RI Land Trust Council. He received the Award at the 11th Annual Land & Water Conservation Summit held at the University of Rhode Island. The award is given to recognize a volunteer – a dedicated “in the trenches” individual – who is making an outstanding contribution to land conservation in his/her Rhode Island community.

Tiverton Land Trust Earns National Recognition

The town of Tiverton, RI Comprehensive Plan of 1997 included guidelines for policies concerning the preservation and conservation of the natural and cultural characteristics of the town. In the same year a small group of Tiverton citizens met informally, discussed those guidelines, and used them to create the Tiverton Land Trust as a nonprofit organization that would produce the necessary plans, goals, and objectives to preserve the rural character and scenic beauty of Tiverton.
