Tiverton Land Trust Reaches Goal to Preserve Nonquit Pond Farmlands

We’re pleased to report that we have reached the $235,000 community fundraising goal needed to purchase conservation easements on the two properties that compose the Nonquit Pond Farmlands project. This project is a rare opportunity to preserve 30 acres of historic farmland on Nonquit Pond. that has been farmed continuously for over 250 years.

We received many donations from long-time TLT supporters and from folks who have just recently begun supporting our mission. We received checks, processed donations made online through our website, and received gifts of appreciated securities as well.

While much of the community support came from individuals, we are also generously supported by the town of Tiverton through its Tiverton Open Space Commission. And we received a significant financial boost in October when an anonymous donor made a $50,000 matching gift towards the effort.

We will combine these monies raised from the community with the funds pledged by the Department of Environmental Management and the Natural Resources Conservation Service to get us to the $760,000 total needed. We are on track to complete this project in 2022.

Stay tuned for more exciting news on this preservation effort and other projects coming in 2022.
